Alone Gear List Season 9

In this article, we look at the Alone Gear List Season 9 and specifically what each contestant chose to take with them. All of this information has been taken from the History Channel website and organized on a single page for your convenience.

Season 9 is being filmed on Inuit land in Nunatsiavut, Labrador in eastern Canada in the Big River area near the community of Makkovik. There are plenty of black bears, fish like trout and salmon, squirrels, grouse, rabbits, and other wildlife that can potentially provide much-needed sustenance.

As always, it is impossible to predict who will win but anyone who knows how to accurately shoot a bow has an instant advantage. Other people have the benefit of the strength to build a solid shelter early on so that they can focus solely on food. Other contestants have the benefit of age and wisdom; knowing which can heal you will be a massive key to long-term survival – if you have to call a doctor, then you lose and are out of the game.

Season 9 of Alone Gear List

Each contestant has a very strict limit on the things they can and can’t take with them. There are things that every contestant is allowed and then every contestant gets to pick 10 items from a limited list of survival resources. The choices you make before you go can have a massive impact on your success and so it’s worth reading through and deciding what you would take and then comparing that to the contestants further down the page.

Clothing Allowance

Here is a list of the clothes every contestant is allowed to take with them that are not counted towards their 10 items:

• 1 x pair of high-leg hunting boots
• 1 x pair of waterproof arctic winter boots
• 1 x t-shirt
• 1 x fleece/wool shirt
• 2 x wool, fleece, or cotton sweaters
• 6 x pairs wool socks
• 2 x bush hats
• 2 x buffs or neck gaiter
• 1 x shemagh or scarf
• 4 x pairs of gloves
• 2 x pairs of underwear/briefs
• 1 x insulated parka-style jacket
• 2 x pairs of outdoor pants/bibs
• 1 x pair of fully insulated or waterproof winter pants/bibs
• 1 x waterproof un-insulated shell/jacket
• 2 x pairs of thermal underwear
• 1 x pair of gaiters
• 1 x leather belt
• 1 x toothbrush
• 1 x pair of eyeglasses
• 1 x personal photograph

10 Individual Items

This is the list of items each participant can select 10 of their choice from. The only rules with this selection are that you can only take 2 items containing food, you can’t take duplicates of the same item, and you have to source the item yourself.

Shelter

• 1 x 12×12 ground cloth/tarp
• 1 x 8-mm climbing rope – 10M
• 1 x 550 Paracord – 80m
• 1 x 3-mm cotton cord – 40m

Bedding

• 1 x multi-seasonal sleeping bag
• 1 x bivi bag
• 1 x sleeping pad
• 1 x hammock

Cooking

• 1 x large pot
• 1 x steel frying pan
• 1 x flint or Ferro rod set with a standard-sized striker
• 1 x enamel bowl for eating
• 1 x spoon
• 1 x canteen/water bottle

Hygiene

• 1 x standard size bar of soap
• 1 x 8-oz tube of toothpaste
• 1 x face flannel
• 1 x 40-mm roll dental floss
• 1 small bottle bio shower soap
• 1 x shaving razor
• 1 x towel
• 1 x comb

Hunting

• 1 x 300-yd roll of a single-filament fishing line up to a max of 20 lbs weight test + 35 assorted barbless hooks
• 1 x Primitive Bow Recurve or longbow + 9x Arrows
• 1 x small-gauge gill net
• 1 x slingshot/catapult + 30 steel ball bearings + 1 replacement band
• 1 x net foraging bag
• 2 lbs of 20, 21 or 22-gauge stainless steel and/or brass trapping (snare) wire
• 3 lbs of one solid block of salt

Food (2 items max)

• 2 lbs of beef jerky
• 2 lbs of dried pulses/legumes/lentils mix

Terry has lots of hunting and fishing experience as well as having taken extended trips into the wilderness in the past. Terry chose fairly standard gear however opted for a saw and an ax instead of choosing an item with a different purpose. Here are the 10 items Terry chose to take with him in season 9 of Alone:

Tom has a lot of hunting experience, especially with small game which is more abundant in Labrador and sees this trip as a chance to heal and show respect to his late hunting mentor. Again, this is a solid choice of tools and equipment but he chose a saw and ax as well. Here are the 10 survival items Tom chose to help him last the longest in season 9:

As a previous world champion power lifter for the USA, Benji is big and strong which may give him an edge or it may work against him. He has plenty of experience fishing and hunting which should serve him well in this survival competition. Benji chose salt as his 10th item which isn’t a bad choice but will it come back to bite him? Here are the 10 bits of gear he chose to pack in his backpack:

Karie Lee Knoke

Karie has a wealth of experience as a wilderness guide and primitive skills instructor and has been living an outdoor lifestyle for the past 30 years. Karie chose emergency rations as her final item which will be hard not to eat when she is starving but presumably she will be saving these for the colder months. Jessie grew up with a love for the outdoors and after enlistment as a SERE Specialist (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) for four years she is now the head instructor at a SERE training school. In 2022 she opened up her own school called the O.W.L.S. Skills (Outdoorsy Women Learning Survival Skills).

Jessies 10 items are perhaps the most controversial of all the participants having chosen a machete and saw instead of an axe. She is also the only one to not take any fishing line or hooks and instead took salt. The ten pieces of equipment she chose to take with her are:

Igor is perhaps a bit of a black sheep in that he has a fairly blue-collar job as a leadership consultant by day but in his spare time he is an avid outdoorsman and bowhunter. Adam has lived an adventurous life taking opportunities as they come and making spontaneous decisions that lead to gaining lots of experience handling tough situations. Adam was the only contestant to take an extra tarp which he can use for making shelters, clothing, containers, rainwater, and many other things however he is one of the few people to not take any paracord. One of his listed occupations is tree house builder which is just awesome. Here are the 10 survival items he chose:

Teimojin has specific knowledge about survival medicine and is adept at identifying plants and understanding their properties and benefits. He is a smart guy and has also studied things like hunting and shelter building to give him a well-rounded set of skills. So what did he take? A standard list of 9 items with the addition of emergency rations will come in very handy if it lasts long enough before the wildlife becomes more scarce. Here are his 10 picks:

So when he grew up, converted an old school bus into an RV, and started to teach wilderness survival I don’t think anyone was surprised. He is now living out his dreams and gets to test himself on season 9 of Alone on the History Chanel.
