Alone Season 10 Gear List

In this article, we compare each contestant’s Alone season 10 gear list and share our thoughts on the items they chose to take. All this information has been taken from the History Channel website and organized for easy reading.

Season 10 of Alone is set in Northern Saskatchewan, Canada, a vast region marked by its sprawling boreal forest and pristine lakes. Here, amidst bears and lynx, deer and moose, and a plethora of fish such as walleye and pike, survival is a rigorous challenge.

Contestants will need to be resourceful, adept at fishing or spear hunting, quick to establish shelter amidst the thick forest, and knowledgeable of nature’s remedies found in the local flora. But remember a single call for medical assistance, and they’re out.

The gear they take with them can make or break them, so I always enjoy seeing which items they picked. If you are interested in checking out the gear list from Alone Season 3Season 4, and Season 9, then open these in a new tab for later.

Alone Season 10 Gear List

There are items that every contestant is allowed, like clothing and safety equipment. Then on top of that, every contestant can choose 10 items from a list of survival resources which they can then source themselves so long as it adheres to the strict guidelines. The choices they make before they go can have a massive impact on their success.

So for a bit of fun, when reading through this article, try and decide what you would take and then compare that to the contestants further down the page.

List of Items Each Contestant Can Choose 10 From

Before we get straight into what gear each contestant from Alone Season 10 chose to take, there are just four commonsensical rules that prevent people from gaining an unfair advantage.

  1. They have to source and purchase all their own equipment with no help from the show; however, each item must be inspected and approved by the production team before starting.
  2. Only two of the ten items can be food, so they can’t just take 10 sacks of rice and try and wait out the rest of them.
  3. Any loops of string attached to any tool or weapon or used as a neck loop will be deducted from the participant’s allowance of 80m of paracord, cotton cord, or trapping wire.
  4. Finally, they can’t take duplicates of the same item.

Now it’s time to see the list of items that each participant can select 10 items of their choice from, starting with the shelter, bedding, and hygiene gear. These remain unchanged since last year.

  • 1 x Bar of soap
  • 1 x 8 oz tube of toothpaste
  • 1 x Face flannel
  • 1 x 40 mm roll of dental floss
  • 1 x Small bottle of bio shower soap
  • 1 x Shaving razor
  • 1 x Towel
  • 1 x Comb

I am not sure who in their right mind would take a comb as one of their items unless there is a use I have yet to discover. Not to sound gross or anything, but I wouldn’t waste any of my 10 picks on the hygiene options presented. I think if someone chooses toothpaste as one of their 10 items, it is a clear signal that they do not know what they are doing (why? Because nature has a tonne of things they can use instead).

  • 2 lbs of beef jerky
  • 2 lbs of dried pulses/legumes/lentils mix
  • 2 lbs of hard tack military biscuits
  • 2 lbs of chocolate
  • 2 lbs of pemmican
  • 2 lbs of GORP (trail mix)
  • 2 lbs of flour
  • 1 lb of Flour
  • 1/3 lb of Rice / 1/3lb of Sugar /1/3 lb of Salt
  • 1 lb Fat (tallow, lard, or ghee – No Salt Added)
  • 3 lbs of one solid block of salt (rock or Himalayan sea salt only)

As nice as it would be to take some food, I don’t think it’s very wise. The old saying, “Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day but teach a man to fish, and he can feed his family for life”, comes to mind here. They are much better off taking the means to supply food sustainably than taking the food itself. That being said, salt can be used as a preserver as well as to provide essential sodium to the body.

gear list for alone season 10

  • 1 x Pocket knife
  • 1 x Hunting knife
  • 1 x Leatherman multitool or similar
  • 1 x Sharpening stone
  • 1 x Roll of duct tape or 1 roll of electrical tape
  • 1 x Small shovel
  • 1 x Machete
  • 1 x Small sewing kit
  • 1 x Carabiner
  • 1 x LED flashlight
  • 1 x Pair of ice spikes
  • 1 x Scotch-eyed auger
  • 1 x Adze
  • 1 x 2-handed draw knife
  • 1 x Hatchet
  • 1 x Saw
  • 1 x Ax

This is the hardest decision of all, with just two picks left. I think the rational decision would be to take a strong hunting knife and an axe. But if they aren’t going to be building a full-on log cabin, then maybe a hatchet would be more economical for chopping firewood up. Similarly, the benefits of a multitool might be just what they need for their specific skill set. While any tool can break, I think a strong, full-tang knife would be more reliable than a multitool with a small fold-out blade.

But other combinations might work too. Some contestants in the past have chosen to take a small shovel with a sharpened edge instead of an axe; however, that turned out to be a mistake because of how much effort it took to chop wood (calories burned). A machete can do the jobs of an axe and a knife, but just not as well as the two individual tools can. A saw is often the safest and most energy-conserving option but harder to sharpen without a proper sharpening tool.

My last two picks would be an axe for chopping wood and shelter building and a hunting knife for day-to-day tasks and splitting wood by battening.

Were There Any Patterns in The Gear They Chose?

All 10 contestants took the following items of gear:

  • Bow and Arrows
  • Cooking Pot
  • Ferro Rod
  • Fishing Line and Hooks
  • Multitool
  • Sleeping Bag

Other popular items which most contestants chose were:

  • Axe
  • Paracord
  • Saw
  • Snare Wire

By far, the most popular selection was:

  1. Axe
  2. Bow and Arrows
  3. Cooking Pot
  4. Ferro Rod
  5. Fishing Line and Hooks
  6. Multitool
  7. Paracord
  8. Saw
  9. Sleeping Bag
  10. Snare Wire

Surprisingly, nobody took a rain tarp, only one person chose a gill net, everybody chose a multitool over a full tang knife, Melanie chose two items of food, and one person chose soap instead of an axe or saw. Here is a table of all the different contestant’s gear lists from season 10 of the History Channel’s Alone tv show so you can compare them:

Your chart and analysis are incorrect. Luke didn’t bring a ferro rod, like your chart says, but he did bring snare wire, which your chart leaves out.

Instead of an axe, he brought a shovel. Instead of paracord, he brought a gillnet. And instead of a ferro rod, he brought salt. His other items were the same as other people’s.

Since he’s thriving with 11 fish, I wouldn’t knock his choices yet. And salt can mean a lot in getting electrolytes in areas without salt water, plus his bear-den shelter would be tough to build without a shovel. And soap makes life in the wilderness seem like real life, and sanitary, not just an experience of being elbow deep in fish guts on poop-covered hands.

  5. According to your list, Luke did not take a ferro rod, but you said all contestants took a ferro rod.

  6. Since the show provides each contestant one 10’x 10′ tarp, I wouldn’t give up one of my choices by getting another.
