RUFFWEAR Front Range Dog Harness Review
The RUFFWEAR Front Range Dog Harness is the best for everyday hiking as well as for camping trips too. It ranked number 1 on our list of the top 7 dog harnesses for hiking and it is something I have used for years with my dog.
The updated design uses a super durable and abrasion-resistant shell fabric that can withstand everything the trail has to offer. When you tighten the straps it feels very solid and likely to last a long time. A well-thought-out feature is that the stress points are reinforced so that over time they don’t wear down or fail on you.
The harness in the pictures is the old model but as of 2021, this has now been updated with new features like upgraded materials and high visibility trims. I cannot wait to test this new version but not until this old harness has been retired, which may still be some time.
Durable and Hardwearing
There are two extra secure attachment points to attach your leash to and these have been updated also to be harder wearing. The fabric loop on the chest section is made from a strong webbing that is doubled over for extra security with lots of reinforced stitching. This is specifically for dogs that pull and works a treat when training your dog.
The aluminum V-ring on the top is super easy to access with your leash and is perfect for keeping your dog under control when needed. There is no handle on top to grab but you can easily grip hold of the straps or harness when needed to quickly take control of your dog. As well as using this harness, you should always carry a reliable leash for hiking through areas with livestock or near busy roads.
Adjustable and Comfy
With four points of adjustment and available in 5 sizes, the Ruffwear Front Range is undoubtedly one of the comfiest harnesses for dogs on a hike. The padded foam construction covers the entire inside of the harness which means your dog won’t feel any sharp edges or rub against stitched seams. It is fast and painless to put on and take off even the most wriggly pooches.
Once the 4 adjustable straps have been configured to your dog’s size and shape, it simply slips over your dog’s head and has one clip that fastens on the side to secure it in place.
Picking the Right Size Harness: Ruffwear Front Range
The sizes range from XXS harnesses for small breed dogs to large/X large harnesses for bigger dogs. To choose the right size harness for your dog you can watch the video above for a guide on how to take the measurements around your dog’s chest. Once you have taken the measurements using a tape measure you can select the appropriate size using the chart below. This RUFFWEAR Front Range Dog Harness review is based on the extra small version however my friend has tested the large size and sings very high praises also.

It feels good to give your dog the best dog harness for hiking and know that they will be safe and comfortable. The Ruffwear Front Range harness proves to be the ultimate harness for outdoor dogs time and time again.
Some extra touches which put this harness at the top of the class are the reflective trim which helps keep your dog visible at night. This is so that you can keep track of where they run off to and so that drivers can see them if hiking near a road at night. There is also a handy beacon loop to attach LED lights to on a night for even better visibility. If your dog does run off in this harness, there is a clever little ID tag pouch built-in for rescuers to find.
